Although growth and development are usually often used interchangeably, they are not describing the equivalent theories. Growth is typically the description of a persons physical development. Growth refers to physical changes and join ons in the childs actual size (Allen, & Marotz, 2009). This concept is basically the dimensions of the person for example, height, fish and the length of their extremities. Throughout a persons life history they will continue to grow though not forever and a day at the equivalent rate.
Development encompasses a wide miscellany of information, but it has a different definition than growth. Development refers to an increase in complexity - a change from the relatively sincere to the more complicated and detailed (Allen, & Marotz, 2009).
Development is more so about how people change and/ or stay the same ultimately. The science of development studies all kinds of people young and old, robust and poor; of every ethnicity, background, sexual orientation, culture and nationality (Berger, 2005). When studying development, we need to find the differences and the similarities between these people. As a childs body approachs to mature, they begin to develop, in most cases they will begin to walk, talk, have social relationships, and show emotions; these are only most examples of a developing child.
