J D Wetherspoon Plc was founded by Tim Martin and opened the first public house under the name J D Wetherspoon in 1979. A Political factor which has affected JDW is the Governments concerns closely binge inebrietying and anti-social behaviour. JDW reacted to this and cut down the amount of alcoholic beverage they use in cocktail pitchers and they removed all price incentives to drink larger measures of spirits. The Government has enforced that pubs cannot be seen to encourage giving behaviour as it brings a bad reputation and publicity.
