The scenario to be discussed is firstly concerned with the ethical decisions of a nurse taking a patient down to theatre and the second the dignity of that patient while in theatre.
In identify to work as a nurse or midwife within the United Kingdom, they must first demo with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. There are over 600,000 nurses and midwives registered at comprise (Woogara 2012).
The NMC is a regulatory body and it has a code of conduct that must be adhere to by all nurses and midwives. This actor that a nurse must work and behave to a certain standard set by the NMC, as a registered nurse is legally and professionally accountable for their actions.
The NMC also decides what skills and qualities a nurse must obtained during their training and once qualified, must nurture to the NMC that they are keeping their skills up to date. It is also the NMCs subcontract to investigate any allegations of nurses that are not fit to practice, in order to protect the public from malpractice and can remove nurses from the register if they are not safe to work or are unprofessional when doing so (NMC 2010).
Last year the National wellness Service (NHS) spent £911 million on compensation (NHS judicial proceeding Authority, 2011) therefore it is important that the NMC makes sure that all student nurses and midwives are well educated and work within the ethical and legal frameworks which are set, in order to protect patients and fellow staff.
