The story starts out with a truck driver (Thomas) entering an empty bar. Thomas then interprets silhouettes in another room through the curtains, and he sees someone with a gun. Thinking hes witnessing a murder, he runs into the room, to see that it is just four men trying to put experience a sick dog. People of the community then tell stories about red dog, as flashbacks.
The film represents Australia positively. It is set in a sm all community in Dampier, and almost everyone in the town is associated with the mining industry. The film highlights Australian community spirit, as the town of Dampier is a very active and supportive community.



The view of the movie is rough, hot and dry but there are parts in the movie that shows Western Australia as a beautiful quiet place.
There is a certain shooting that is deliberately put in, to show multiculturalism in Australia. This scene highlights and touches on migration. Thomas asks why Vanno (Italian man) left Italy, he responds with Same as all these fools, Money! We all follow the money, they come from everywhere, from all countries they come, for the money, for the work, from Poland, New Zealand, Ireland, Greece, Latvia, America and even Melbourne, eating together and hand clapping together. 9:10 This short scene highlights Australian multiculturalism in the film.
