Just a couple of miles from the concentre of Harrogate, Yorkshire, (managed and directed by Heather Parry is a farm shop/café called cannon fodder. Fodder opened in June 2009. Run by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society and based at the Great Yorkshire Showground, its Britains setoff charitable forage hall, with profits ploughed back into the community. Fodder is simply a great farm shop, showcasing up to 225 of the outperform of Yorkshire and Humber food producers. The shop first opened after the revulsion of foot and mouth, explains Fodders managing director Heather Parry. We demanded to do something to dish up the farming community and many of these producers didnt have the time or money to open up their own shops. The idea reasonable snowballed from there.
The aim of the business is to celebrate and sell locally produced food; 85% of their products argon from Yorkshire and argon currently working with 211 farmers and had a 40% growth year on year in sales from 2009-2010 and a 32% growth year on year from 2010-2011.
Fodder wants to make everything about the business sustainable the physical building has 21 environmental features, some of which are:
* Photovoltaic Lighting sunlight is converted into electricity.
* Recycled Plastic Bottles Fodder uses these to make loo doors, vanity units, shopping baskets and their trolleys.
* Timber indite the building is made from a timber frame quite an than steel frame, which is more environmentally friendly.
* Sheep Wool Insulation their walls are influenced by 1,500 fleeces, which is good for the environment and if more people use this type of insulation this means that Fodder hopes that farmers will pee a better price for their wool.
